History:

The opening ceremony of the Vogtlandschanze, which was part of the Vogtland championships, attracted about 2,000 spectators on January 15, 1933. Members of the WSV Mühlleithen had built the facility in an incredible speed with few money and much idealism. On August 23, 1932 the chairman of the ski club Hans Seubert could announce the beginning of construction, after the contract with the forest administration was signed. The project of the jumping hill was developed by Karl Luther from Partenkirchen. For the construction a committee with 7 members was established by WSV Mühlleithen, and the works on the ground began on September 12th. For the profile of the jump around 2000 cubic metres of soil and about 500 cubic metres of stone had to be removed.
In the following years the traditional New Year’s competition was started and in 1938 even the first night competition was hosted. In 1939 a 3 Hills Tournament was organized together with Johanngeorgenstadt and Oberwiesenthal. In 1950’s up to 28,000 spectators came to the jump and in 1957 Vogtlandschanze was covered with plastic mattings. In 1960 the hill gets converted and additionally the small plastic covered hill is constructed out of wood.
In 1971/72 the ski jumping hill is completely reconstructed and the old inrun tower is substituted by a new steel one. In 1981 additionally a ceramic inrun trail was installed.
In spring 1996 the conversion into a K80 plastic covered ski jump starts and the opening takes place on January 4, 1997 was a World Cup “B” of Nordic Combined. Then yearly competitions of combined have been taking place at Klingenthal.
Due to a damaging of the landing hill no more competitions have been possible on the large K80 Vogtlandschanze since 2010. The around 600,000 Euro expensive reconstruction works on the knoll and landing hill started in June 2012. In summer 2013 new plastic mattings were installed on K80 and K60. After a renovation of the judges' tower and a couple of years without any official competition, the opening competition of the summer Alpen Cup season of the ladies took place on the larger of the two hills.
After the Aschberg junior hills at Steinbachtal had to be closed in 2019, the long-awaited extension of the ski jumping facility at Mühlleithen has started in 2020. For a total of 925,000 Euro four new plastic covered ski jumping hills K40, K25, K15 and K8 are being built for the ski jumping youth. Funding support for these new hills was initially already received by VSC Klingenthal in November 2017. Then, in April 2020 the wood clearing works started and in September 2020 the construction works. By winter 2021-2022 the new junior hills shall be completed and then inaugurated in January 2022. Costs are expected to rise to up to 1.2 million Euros.
