History:

There have been ski jumping activities at Bohinjska Bistrica, the main town in Bohinj valley at the foot of Triglav in Julian Alps, already since 1920. In the year of 1927, Tomaz Godec initiated the construction of a larger ski jump and so the Norwegian engineer Torleif Tunold Hanssen designed a 50 meter hill which could be inaugurated in 1930, whereby Hanssen himself jumped a hill record of 43 m was set up. Furthermore Bogo Šramel jumped a Yugoslavian record of 33 m. In 1931 an international competition with participants from all over Europe was organized and at a similar tournament in 1934 a new record distance of 53 m was set.
Later the larger hill was enlarged on 70 meters and still today the ski jumping facility is frequently used by the very dedicated and busy ski club Bohinj. So in 2011 the smaller ski jumps were covered with mattings by the ski club members.
Other than that, Polje is also the home of the BohinjSKI ZIP Flyer for a few years now. Using this attraction, which is opened every Sunday, the visitors have the chance to dive into the world of ski jumping by putting on jumping skis, slide down a short inrun and then fly through the air with the support of a zip-line.
