History:

The ski jumping hill on the slopes of Sparrow Hills (Vorob'yevy gory, until 1999 called Lenin Hills/Leninskie gory) above the Moskva river was built in 1953 and later covered with plastic mattings. In its early years, it had been used for a few international competitions that attracted large crowds, but then there had been no international tournaments from 1964 until 1990. Although the facility had a FIS certificate, it was only used for national competitions and mainly as a training centre. In the beginning 1990’s an international Nordic Combined competition was hosted there, which will be kept in bad memory because of difficult wind conditions, an outdated hill profile and organizational problems.
Especially the plastic covered junior hills K45, K25 an K10 have been an important training centre for Russian ski jumping, amongst others, Irina Avvakumova, who won a Ladies World Cup in 2014, learned to ski jump there. In summer 2010 the K72 was covered with new plastic mattings and it should have been included in the new Ladies World Cup 2011/2012, but this idea was rejected. Then, the landing slope of the jumping hill was seriously damaged by a fire in early May 2012.
In 2016 profound modernization and conversion works have started at the Vorob'yevy gory leisure park. The K72 hill was already been dismantled and shall be rebuild as a modern K75 ski jump. Besides, further leisure facilities are constructed, such as a skiing slope, a toboggan run, a snowboard fun park, and the 737 meter long cable car that crosses Moskva over to Luzhniki Stadium is renewed. Due to issues with the financing by an investor and the difficult geology of the site, the works that had been scheduled for completion already in 2018 shall now be finished by 2020.

Schanze durch Brand stark in Mitleidenschaft gezogen

An der Schanze ist aus noch ungeklärter Ursache ein Feuer ausgebrochen und hat die Anlage wohl leider stark beschädigt!
