The first ski jumping hill in Herttoniemi was built in 1935 in order to replace the Alppila 28 meter hill. The new 50 meter hill was inaugurated on January 24, 1936 and used until early 1960's. During one of the last competitions, later Olympic gold medalist Veikko Kankkonen set up a hill record of 55 meters. Then, ski jumping activities were moved to the new hills at Herttoniemi, which are located around 1 km north and still in use today. From the former hill at then end of Majavatien only few remainders are visible today.
