Around 1955, a small ski jumping hill was constructed at the "Platz der Thälmannpioniere", which is today's Alaun square and park in the outer new town of Dresden. It was probably mainly used for school sports education and had a ca. 3 m high inrun hill, a concrete take-off, and an excavated landing slope.
Since 2009, the "private open ski jumping championships of Dresden" have been held on the hill. However, since organized events are forbidden in the park due to a town council decision, the ski jumping enthusiasts from Dresden can only gather for spontaneous competitions. Nevertheless, the ski jumping events often attract quite a number of spectators - the record being 384 in 2017.
From 1926, there was already the first ski jump in Dresden at Stechgrund, and in 1956 the ski jumps at Wilder Mann were also inaugurated.
