History:
The Norwegian immigrant Peder Falstad was one of the best ski jumpers in the USA in the 1920s and lived in Hannaford for some time. In 1924 he and Chuck Cole built a ski jump on the western bank of Bald Hill Creek. It had a steel tower and cost $600, the steel parts originally belonging to John J. Haugens' windmill.
Especially in the 1920s and 30s, numerous competitions took place there, often several per winter, which attracted hundreds of spectators. In addition to Falstad, the participants include e.g. also Casper Oimoen - both were Olympic participants in 1932. One of the last competitions took place in 1950, before interest in ski jumping in Hannaford completely dried up. The dilapidated ski jumping hill was torn down in 1960.
