History:
Since 1930's there had been ski jumping activities on “Taulumäki” 50 meter hill at Jyväskylä. The ski jumping hill had been used until 1966, while in 1964 the 90 meter hill “Laajavuoren Hyppyrimäki“ was constructed.
The K60 training jump was added in 1974 and the K30 built in 1980. After the great success of the son of the city Matti Nykänen at the Olympic Winter Games of Calgary 1988 the large hill was named after him. In early 1990's it was also modernized and covered with plastic mattings for summer use in 1993.
Reinstatement works on the inrun tower of HS 108 had to be carried out in 2007. The last Finnish Championships on the hill were held in 2008 and due to lack of funds the condition of all hills is becoming worse. Nevertheless, during 2010s modernization works had been carried out repeatedly. In summer 2021, the K5 hill was covered with plastic mattings. Meanwhile, the K25 had to be closed due to a dilapidated inrun, which is being renovated in August 2021.

The city of Jyväskylä is in the large Finnish lakes area at the north end of the great Päijänne lake, which reaches nearly till Lahti in the south. The most important road link between the big cities Helsinki in the south and Oulu in the north leads through Jyväskylä.
