History:

The WSV Saalfelden-Maria Alm, which was founded in 1912 and later renamed as Schiklub Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, had already organized the first skiing competitions at 875 m high Kühbühel/Kühbichel in 1913. In 1926, a 40-meter ski jumping hill was built there behind Ritzen castle and in the following year also a smaller junior hill. Around 1930 Ritzen-Schanze was very popular and state competitions were also hosted there.
After World War II the ski jump was renovated in 1947-48 and probably used until Lake Ritzen was flooded in 1954. Instead, the larger Drei-Tannen-Schanze was set up on the other side of Kühbühel, near the Dillinger guesthouse. Furthermore, a small snow jump was built for children. Most successful ski jumper from Saalfelden during that period was Ernst Kröll, Austrian champion in 1969. Later, the nordic skiing center at Uttenhofen was extended and activities shifted there.
