Liberec is located in the north of Czechia, only 20 km away of the German border. Krkonoše (the Giant Mountains) are located north-east of the city. With 100,000 inhabitants it is one of the biggest cities of the country. Liberec was founded in 13th century by German colonialists and the German name "Reichenberg" was first documented in the 14th century. The historic city center with its timber-frame houses and pergolas from the 18th century and many classicistic buildings is very interesting. Furthermore, there is a renaissance-style castle with baroque extension, a baroque church and the town hall in flamish renessaince style.
