In 1989, ski jumping hills of 10, 15 and 25 metres were constructed in the village of Dzerzhinskoye. After 20 years the question to repair them arose: In winter pupils of the local school trained only on the smallest hill and had to travel to Tomsk to the Akademgorodok facility to improve their skills. But in 2016 the hills in Tomsk were practically destroyed by fire and this option was no longer possible.
The local authorities from Tomsk have repeatedly discussed the ski jumping hills in the village of Dzerzhinskoye, where the last competition was held in 2011; on the one hand, considerable financial resources were needed to renovate them, on the other hand, the staff potential of the sports school was assessed as not very promising.
The decreasing number of children at the school, despite its rich tradition (over 30 years, more than a thousand people have passed through the ski jumping and nordic combined department), does not inspire optimism. Nordic Combined is a respected sport in Dzerzhynskoye. In the 1990s, the whole village rejoiced when its resident won the Russian championships.
One of the coaches at the school, Selyaninov, who himself participated in the construction of the hill, disagreed with the authorities' opinion that the facilities are dangerous for children, according to him the reinforced concrete pillars at the base of the facility were impregnated with a special agent and it would be enough to fence in the area, do some maintenance work to bring the complex back to sporting life.
Estimates of the amount of money to be spent in order to make the ski jumping facility functional vary widely, from 320,000 to 1.5 million roubles, and there is rather little chance that ski jumping will be resumed at the facility.
