The first wooden hill in the area of St. Olaf College in Northfield was established in 1911. Until 1913, the facility was modernized and equipped with a metal inrun structure. The hill was named after the great ski jumper Anders Haugen, who was a consultant on the hill conversion and organized the inaugural competition on January 15, 1913. Haugen then achieved the best distance of 121.5 feet (37 meters). In 1923, the tower was moved to the nearby Thorson Hill. The structure was dismantled in 1961.
