History:

Scandinavian immigrants formed the Dalton Ski Club in 1912 and in 1913 organized the first ski tournament on their own ski jump in northwest Dalton. The ski pioneers Anders and Lars Haugen were among the participants of the tournament in February 1915. Due to World War I, activities came to a standstill in 1918, the ski jump was demolished, the tower dismantled and the club disbanded.
At the end of the 1920s, the ski club was re-established and the ski jump rebuilt. In 1933, 5000 spectators came to a competition with 125 participants! The hill has been expanded several times over the years. In the 1940s the inrun tower was nearly 12 meters high and the hill record was 144 feet (44 meters).
In 1957, the now rotten tower was torn down to build a new one. A tragedy occurred and Walter Erickson died. Then it took until 1965 before the new ski jumping hill with its almost 20-meter high tower was rebuilt under the leadership of Goody Rude and named after Erickson. The 14th Dalton Ski Tournament was held on February 21, 1965 to mark the opening. In the following year, however, the last official competition took place in Dalton and interest shifted to alpine skiing.
