History:
The first artifical ski jumping hill at Iron Mountain was set up at Hemlock Street in 1929. In 1933 the first iron-made jump called Devils’s Hill was constructed at Crystal Lake and inaugurated on January 5, 1934, at the mean time the founding of Kiwanis Ski Club was celebrated.
In 1937 the construction of the ski jumping hill at Pine Mountain was started, 1938 the 156 feet high inrun tower and works on the landing hill were finished. Then in 1939 the first competition was hosted and Bob Roecker from Duluth won over Alf Engen with 257 feet and set up a new American record with this distance.
Since these early days Pine Mountain Jump has been renovated and renewed several time, like digging lower in the outrun in 1948. After a fire in 1977 the inrun structure was renovated and enlarged. Furthermore, for some time there was also a 80-meter normal hill next to the large hill.
In 1996 and 2000 World Cup competitions attended by up to 20,000 spectators were hosted on USA’s largest large hill jump at Iron Mountain, since 2001 a yearly COC competition has taken place on the wind-prone jump.
In order to comply with FIS regulations, in 2017 a modernization effort on the large hill has started in 2017, which costs around 2 million US$. Besides small changes the to the hill profile, main actions include the construction of a lift and a warming room, as well as a number of smaller, safety-related measures. Finally, in summer 2020 the renovation of the inrun had started and was completed by December. The old wooden planks were replaced by a steel deck and then a modern Top-Speed ceramic inrun track was installed. In June 2021 the modernized ski jump was inspected by FIS and it was promised that a World Cup can be hosted there in 2023.
Due to the non-fulfilment of FIS requirements for the construction of a lift to the top of the inrun, Pine Mountain did not get the right to host the World Cup after 23 years and the competition returned to the modernised facilities in Lake Placid after a long break.

komentarz o skoczni

Lift works
...have finally started. Last weekThey cleaned the area around inrun tower and cut the trees down. By February 2020 they need to build and finish the lift for easier access to the top of the inrun and some other small details so they could host the 1000th Men's individual World Cup event. I hope the works will also start real soon in Copper Peak as they promised they would start soon after the Red Bull 400 event.
