History:

In the 1950’s ski jumping was a great sports event at Götaland. 1935 to '36 the large Skalleberget ski jump was built by helpers, before it was opened in 1937 in front of 3,000 spectators. At the region’s championships of the Swedish province Götaland Holger Morfeldt jumped longest with 37 m.
But the first ski jump already existed before, the Malebacken (Myranebacken) at Myrana, where the club championship took place in 1933. In 1944 another ski jumping hill was constructed at Myrana which was only used for practising.
Many famous guests and ski jumpers from Norway came to the ski festivals at Skalleberget. That’s why April 7, 1940 became a great day in the history of the large Skalleberget. Birger Ruud, one of the world’s best jumpers at that time, set up a new hill record with 53,5 m. But this was not the end, Einar Andersen from Göteborg improved the old record again with 3 meters on 56,5 m and therewith Skalleberget became the largest ski jumping facility of Götaland. The highest point of the hill was at 61 m and the total length from the inrun tower down to the outrun was even 180 m!
In 1956 the last competition took place on the large Skalleberget, and in 1959 it even began to dilapidate. 1967, as can be seen on the photo, only some wooden boards of the original inrun tower in the former outrun of the jump kept to remind of old ski jumping times at Skalleberget.
