History:

At Verkershaus Lucerne an indoor ski jumping hill which is unique in the world was inaugurated by Swiss ski jumping hero Simon Ammann on April 20, 2015, attended by 200 guests. The K8 hill, which is located at aviation hall of the transport museum amongst helicopters, planes and other flying objects, was developed in cooperation of Schanzen Einsiedeln GmbH, the Swiss Ski Association "Swiss Ski" and Verkehrshaus with Peter Riedel GmbH. The landing knoll of the hill is made from a supporting steel structure and the inrun track from high-strength synthetic plastic, on which porcelain knobs are mounted in order to make the skis slide.
According to the motto "tryout at Verkehrshaus and perfect at Einsiedeln" the hill aims at growing fascination for ski jumping with kids. Therefore the potential successors of Simon Ammann are equipped with skis, shoes, suit, gloves, helmet and race number before they jump and afterwards get a certification. "The K8 is an important and trendsetting project for us and is a very good advertisment for our discipline. We managed to get some great publictiy for ski jumping and SWISS SKI through our results over the last few years in both the World Cup and the Olympics. With this project we are able to reach out to a totally different clientele. The possibility of our young jumpers being able to use the jump untouched by both wind and weather is also not to be sneezed at," says Berni Schödler, discipline director Ski Jumping / Nordic Combined at Swiss Ski.
