History:

Founded by ski pioneer Christoph Iselin in 1893, Skiclub Glarus is the oldest in Switzerland. On 1902-01-27 the first ski race of Glarus was held at Sackweiden, but the ski jumping competition had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. One year later the two Norwegians Thorvald Heyerdahl and Anders Holte came to Glarus. First they practised on a 15 meter hill, but at the second ski race on 1903-01-25 the fascinated the audience of around 6,000 spectators with jumps up to 22 m on a larger ski jumping hill at the foot of Glärnisch in Untersagg / at Sackberg. For the 1904 competition it was not possible to engage Scandinavian athletes, but with 18.5 m Victor Sohm from Bregenz could achieve a record distance for Middle Europeans.
For the first "big ski race of Switzerland", i.e. the first Swiss Championships, the two young Norwegian talents Leif Berg and Thorleif Björnstad came to the Schanze am Elmer Feld Glarus for demonstration purposes. While Sohm won the title with 17 meters, Berg with 27 m and Björnstad 25 m had to entertain the around 10,000 spectators.
Later, presumably during 1920s, a permanent ski jumping hill was built at "Dreieck" at Glarus with Glärnischschanze, where distance of more than 40 meters could be jumped still in 1940s. Furthermore, during 1930s there was a smaller ski jump at Bergli.
