The first ski jumps in Sortavala were built back in 1927 by the Finns. During Soviet times the complex was reconstructed and new facilities were built, but the biggest ski jump in Sortavala was only K40. In 2003 the facility was recognised as dangerous and the complex was closed. Only 15 years later Karelia thought about revival of the ski jumping school in Sortavala: new small training ski jumps were built there. In addition to them, the project of the new complex includes a 50-metre ski jumping hill, the construction of which is planned to start in 2021 in Vakkosalmi Park.
