Already in 1920 the first Bjørkelibakken ski jumping hill was constructed, but probably there had been already a few other jumping hills at Stryn before. The ski jump was used by the ski jumpers of Fjell IL and Blasket IL. Competitions were organized there with jumps reaching up to 45 meters long.
From 1930's on there was an another hill at Ullberg-Bakken, which was renovated in 1950 and then became the main ski jump of Stryn. After both ski clubs had united as IL Veten in mid 1960's, there a ski jumping center should be developed.
However, that plan changed and from 1980's onwards Nordfjord Fritidssenter was developed in its current fashion, when the construction of a normal size ski jumping hill at Bjørkelibakken started. On time before the Norwegian Championships in 1996, the K90 was completed in 1994. There a first hill record of 96.5 meters was set up by national title winner Kristian Brenden.
The further jumps K70, K40, K25, K15, K10 and K5 were then only built between 1999 and 2002. Furthermore the training and leisure center includes trails and slopes with lighting, two ski lifts and a hostel with 56 beds.
In 2004 the Nordic Juniors World Championships took place in Stryn. There Poland's Mateusz Rutkowski set up a new record of 104.5 meters. In 2010 the junior NM was staged there and again there was a new hill record.
As a first jump the K15 was equipped with plastic mattings for summer use in 2013, the K40 hill followed only short time later and could be inaugurated in June 2014.
