History:

Grøtåsbakken was planned and drafted by Sigurd Sollid und Nils Laursen in 1957. After almost two years of construction, which partially were also carried out by military members from Jørstadmoen, the new hill was opened. The ski club also received betting funds of 2,000 Norwegian Crowns (around 180 Euros) from the hotel owners Haslev and Lande as a financial support.
The location in Northern direction from Lillehammer was a save pick from Sollid and Laursen, since it offered very stable snow conditions. The first jumps were already done in October 1959. Even though the size of the hill was nothing special, ski jumpers from Easter Norway and also Oslo came to Grøtåsen to do their first snow jumps every year.
One year after the opening, another, smaller, hill was added next to it. However, both hills were only used until 1968. Afterwards, the activities took place at Balberg.
