The ski club Nordre Land Idrettslag (NLI) was founded March 12, 1912. Three years later the hill Granerbakken had been built.
In 1917 NLI organized the so-called Hovedlandsrennet, which was at that time the National Championships. In the presence of His Majesty King Haakon VII the title was won by Ingvar Langlien, while Josef Henriksen stood the longest jump of 47 meters.
The hill was in use for the next forty years, and was considered to be one of the best hills in Norway in the 1920’s. The last major event on Granerbakken hill took place in 1957, with the entire Norwegian elite jumpers participating. The final hill record was set by Kjell Kopstad on January 27, 1957, jumping 60.5 m.
Time took its toll on the hill, and it was closed with the scaffold torn down a couple of years later.
An attempt to rebuild the hill was made in the early 1990’s. An organization for the purpose, called Granerbakkens Venner, was founded. The area was cleaned from bushes and vegetation, but lack of funding made it impossible to go through with the project.
