In 1919, the sports club START was founded, whose members started to build Kampenbakken the same year. The ski jump, which was the largest in Hadeland region back then, was located north of the smaller bakken, whose remnants stil can be seen. It was opened on February 20th 1920. Strangely, some inhabitants of the village warned the jumpers before jumping the hill, because they were afraid of deadly accidents. However, the opening competition took place without any incidents.
In 1924, the club renamed itself to Bleiken SK and the hill gained of popularity, also from the Norwegian Ski Federation. Its representatives were so excited about this facility, that they chose it as the venue of the Olympic Trials 1927 for the Olympic Games 1928 in St. Moritz. The best 200 jumpers of the country competed in this event, among them was the famous Sigmund Ruud.
