History:

On 1 May 1943 a ski jumping competition was held on Jan Mayen island in the Arctic Ocean, on a snow jump at the south-eastern slope of mount Danielssenkrateret. 15 jumpers took part, around half of the weathermen and soldiers on the island, most of them taking turns jumping on one pair of jumping skis that had been sent from Iceland earlier that winter. Wireless operator Egil Rogstad won the competition with jumps of 32.5 and 34.5 metres.
