History:

In 1964 the first part of the Sandnesbakken ski jumping facility at Bjørnevatn was built according to plans by Bergfinn Aaen. Bjørn Wirkola, among others, took part in the opening competition of the 70-meter hill. In 1995 the last modification of the large ski jump took place, which should then allow jumps over 75 meters. In the same year, the Norwegian senior championships were held there. After that, however, interest in ski jumping steadily waned. The last competition on the K72, also known as Sentralbakken, took place in 2006. All five ski jumps are now out of service. Since 2014 they are supposed to be finally demolished.
Previously, in the Sandnes area, there was Gresselvbakken from the 1940s, which was demolished in the late 1990s. Jumps of 25 meters were possible there. In addition, the Tunnelbakken was built in Bjørnevatn in 1919 and was used until the 1960s.
