History:

Zaō-Onsen is a famous hot spring and ski resort at the foot of 1841 m high Mt. Zaō volcano. The town is part of Yamagata municipality, the capital of the prefecture with the same name. Since the completing of the ski jumping hill at Zaō there have been annual ski jumping festivals every winter. Competitions for NHK Trophy and Yamagata Mayor's Cup have been held there.
Since 1998 Continental-Cup competitions have taken place on the K90 normal hill regularly in March. Also Ladies COC has been hosted there since 2005. A hill record of 102.5 m was set up in 2003 at a COC competition by Akira Higashi. Only in March 2011 it was improved on 103.5 m by Norway's Robert Johansson during a FIS-Cup event. Since 2012 Zao has been annual host of Ladies World Cups.
Extensive modernization works had started in spring 2013, including the reconstruction of inrun and landing hill. In time for Ladies World Cup competitions in January 2014 the new K95 / HS 106 hill was ready with its new SKI-LINE inrun track. However, further changes to be landing hill profile had to be made until 2015 in order to comply with FIS requirements and finish the covering with plastic mattings. Since then the hill size is 102 meters.
