The ski jump at Hafrafellsháls was established by the Ármann sports club in 1938-39. It was enlarged in the following years, probably before the national championship in 1951. The remains of the hill are still visible. The landing slope is partially below the main estate road. The jump is situated almost directly in front of the garage of Óskar Kárason on Góuholt street.
At the turn of the 70's and 80's there were plans to build a ski jumping hill on the Sandfell slopes. After the earthworks had been done, the jump was put into operation and the national championships of juniors in 1982 and seniors in 1983 were organized there. Despite the original enlargement plans, the jump finally was finally forgotten.
It should be noted that in this area people jumped probably already before World War II, as evidenced by the photo of the jumper in flight signed "Ski jumping in Tungudalur", that is in the valley at the foot of the Sandfell peak.
