History:

The construction of the ski jump in Schleusingneundorf, a district of Schleusingen, took about two years. This was due to the fact that only voluntary working hours - 15000 in total - of activists and civilians of "Nationales Aufbauwerk (NAW)" and no financial support by the state were used. The project was administrated by Willi Förster, Otto Schmidt and the famous Hans Renner, who was the national coach of the German Democratic Republic at that time.
The hill was inaugurated in 1954 and named after Günther Lesser, a ski jumper from Brotterode, who suffered deadly injuries in an accident. The best GDR jumpers at that time were part of the opening competition, also Helmut Recknagel who became the hill record holder.
Next to the 50-meter-hill there also was a smaller ski jump, which is also visible today and easy to find. Also thanks to a geocach at this location.
