Opposite the ruin of the Moosburg, which was already destroyed in 1314, the ski club of Retterode, which was founded in 1927, built a ski jumping hill in 1931. The inaugural jump on the ski jump in Moosbach valley was performed by Erich Recknagel from Oberschönau on December 12, 1931. More than 300 skies shall have participated and ca. 5000 spectators attended the competition. The longest jump was 48 meters. After 1933 the SA used the ski jump and after World War II it was probably used by BSG Empor Rotterode.
