Heidelbergschanze at Moortal in Elgersburg near Ilmenau was built by the local ski club in 1951. The opening took place in early 1952, also ski jumpers from Ilmenau and Luisenthal took part of it.
In 1953, a conversion took place. After that, also jumpers from foreign countries were here, Norwegians for instance. According to the club chronicle, there were ski carnivals in 1970 and 1971, before a winter without any snow appeared. It is not entirely clear how long the jump was in use.
The parts of the ski jump, which are still visible today, are the landing slope and also the take-off.
