History:

Skiing has a long tradition in the Rhön. In the past the performance centres at Dermbach, Klings, Kaltennordheim and Kaltenlengsfeld supported the fact that sportsmen from the Rhön attracted attention in national and international competitions. Already at that time many young talented sportsmen were sent to the sports school at Oberhof. The most famous skier is Ronny Ackermann from Unteralba. Unfortunately after the reunion 1990 all activities were stopped.
In 1997 a few sportsmen from Langenfeld and Dermbach wanted a restart. They founded the section skiing as a part of the club Blau-Weiß Dermbach and later founded an own ski club, the WSV Rhön e.V., located at Dermbach.
The Rhönschanzen are below the Emberg, 500 m from Dermbach/Unteralba. The ski jumps shall be renovated and converted in order to make the useable for the youth sports. The landing hill of the facility needs to be converted according to the regulations of the IWO and the TÜV. For a ski jumping hill with a K-Point of 50 m (middle size hill) costs of 50,000 € would be spend, but the ski club cannot afford this amount of money alone and is now looking for many sponsors and supporters of the project.
