History:

The Junior ski jumping hill in Thuringian Altenburg was inaugurated on February 2, 1956 in attendance of public representatives and numerous spectators. The hill was built hrough many voluntary working hours and located at Wolfenholz, a terrain in the north-east of the city of Altenburg. Beside the inrun tower (30 m long inrun and 3 m wide) and the judges' tower, the members of the company-facilitated sports union (BSG) Rotation, but also the BSG Aufbau and Lokomotive Altenburg, had to move around 200 m³ of soil and tube a small creek running through the outrun. All this work was done within the scope of the former national construction programme NAW and the whole project wouldn't have been possible without the leading initiative and selfless commitment of Herbert Hendel.
Due to the relatively low altitude there were only few competitions in the following years, in which always the friendly ski jumpers from Schöneck in Vogtland participated. Lack of snow and decreasing interest in the club caused the ski jump to be closed and dismantled already in 1965.

Ich denke der Standort der Schanze in Altenburg war an einer anderen Stelle. ca. 200 m südlich am Hang, zwischen Gartenanlage und dem metallverarbeitenden Betrieb.
