At Bad Muskau, which is famous for its world heritage Fürst-Pückler-Park, the skiing section of BSG Einheit Bad Muskau was founded in 1972 based on the initiative of the Manfred und Brigitte Fichtner. In the area of Bergpark or Oberpark they found an ideal space for building a small nordic training center with a ski jumping hill, a cabin and cross-country trails. After almost one year of building time, supported by many voluntary workers and the national army, Pionierschanze could be inaugurated in 1974. It was even covered with plastic mattings for summer use in 1975. For some time there was a three-hills-tournament hosted there together with competitions in Rauen and Sagar, as well as county and district children's and junior championships. Most talented ski jumpers during that period were Rico Tzschicholz and Harald Wolf. However, after the political turn-around, the ski jump had to be closed in 1992 due to an order from the Saxonian park authorities. A relocation was not possible due to financial reasons and thus the ski jumping history of Bad Muskau ended.
