Since all German Skiing Championships had been hosted in the Black Forest so far, the DSV gave this event for a first time to Bavaria to the small town Kohlgrub in 1908. Determining for this decision were the already existing good skiing resort and the enthusiastic accommodation of the couple Faller, which was carrying the spa and bath hotel at Kohlgrub in these times. There centrally over 300 sportsmen and guests of honour could be accommodated and fed. Additionally the toboggan run at Hörnle (1548 m), the bobsleigh run of Sonnen and an ice-skating place on the bathing pond were already existing, too.
For the occasion of this sports event the local ski club was founded, set up cross-country constructed Badschanze and realized the championships in a very good organized manner. No other than C. J. Luther was at that time participating and also belonging to the elected judges.
Then World War I took sports club to an end and only in the years of 1920’s ski jumping activities slowly recovering. So at “Luß” a snow jumping will was set up, on which club competitions and as a highlight skiing district youth championships in 1933 were organized. After the end of World War II it was again very difficult to reorganize the ski club and the unremitting guard of ski jumpers now selected the area of “Eichele” for the new club ski jumping hill, where the youth championships of Werdenfels were hosted in 1952. The most successful ski jumper from Kohlgrub at that time was C. R. Mayr, who did well in external competitions and also jumped on the large ski jumping hills of Bavaria, Thuringia and Austria.
With the construction of the ski-lift at Hörnle in 1954 interest of young skiers swung completely from jumping to alpine skiing. The regional competition initiated by German Alpine Association at the town Großenast in middle 1960’s then was the very last ski jump tournament.
