History:

Already in 1929 the first small ski jumping hill on Grasberg at Glems near Metzingen was set up.
The Eugen-Handel-Gedächtnisschanze was constructed by members of the ski club and Swabian Alps club of Metzingen in 1950 and completed by February 1951. The inauguration was then held on January 20, 1952 with Georg Thauer from Urach jumping a record distance of 36 meters. Later Alfred Pohl from Meßstetten improved the hill record on 38 meters. The ski jump had been used until late 1970's.
