History:

Already on 1904-02-28 the first ski jumping competition of Vosges was hosted on “Tremplin du Treh” at Markstein and winner was Jean Hutter with 7.5 meters. After that from 1909 to 1922 the “Tremplin Mertz” was used, followed by a the construction of new ski jump by skiers from Mulhouse at today’s location in 1923.
With the increasing number of ski jumping competitions held there, the ski association of Vosges decided to enlarge and renovate the hill. Leader of this action was Adolph Schlumberger from Guebwiller, who was an official with the French ski association and pushed the financing and realization of the re-construction. The modernized 60-meter hill with its wooden inrun tower and stone-made take-off re-opened in 1929 with a competition attended by 6,000 spectators. Schlumberger was also one of the initiators of the "Cup of Markstein" competitions, which were held until 1939.
After World War II the jump was reconstructed into a 70 meter hill with funding from war reparations. It was inaugurated with French championships in 1955, which were another highlight for the small town in Alsace. Until 1966 the French nationals were held at Markstein every year and in the very same year the jumping hill was also named after Etienne Favre, who was a very good ski jumper in 1930's and 40's and had been the president of the regional ski association of Vosges after World War II.
The hill had existed until end of 1980's, but then it was replaced by two smaller junior ski jumping hills K45 and K20, which are unfortunately not used anymore today.
