History:

The first ski jump in China was set up on a hill on the south bank of the Hunjiang River in Tonghua City in Jilin province in 1938. It was built of bricks, and the work was carried out by the Japanese who occupied the area. In 1943 a competition was held in course of the Asian Games.
In the following years, the ski jump was destroyed and the Chinese rebuilt it, building a wooden construction in the same place in 1953. The ski jump at Jiangnan ski area allowed jumps of several dozen meters, but in the first years it was not used, because potential jumpers felt too much fear to move from the starting gate. The first jump on March 2, 1958 was made by ski pioneer Shan Zhaojian and since then the ski jump came to life.
