Hills in Oberhof ready for jumping in October
on 2014-08-08
Both ski jumping hills at Kanzlersgrund in Oberhof are currently under renovation. By October 13, the HS 140 and HS 100 shall be ready for ski jumping.
Initially it was planned that both Rennsteig-Schanzen at Oberhof were ready for action already in end of 2013, but now the re-opening was scheduled for October 13, 2014. Modernization works on both hills at Kanzlersgrund in Oberhof, an important training center for nordic athletes, were planned from end of 2011 on, cost around 1.8 million Euros and began in spring 2013.
The profile of 1985 built HS 96 normal hill was meanwhile completely out-dated and thus it was decided to do a complete re-construction of inrun and landing hill as HS 100. The HS 140 Hans-Renner-Schanze situated next to it was modernized only in 2000 and thus only the landing slope is renewed. Both hills are going to be covered with plastic mattings, but for the large hill it will be carried out only next spring. By then also a new chair lift shall be completed.
Originally it was planned to host German Championships in ski jumping and nordic combined at Oberhof already this year, but they were moved to 2015. Furthermore World Cups and summer events of nordic combined and ladies ski jumping shall return to Thuringia.
