Construction of Nordic Center in Planica progressing

The fundamental reconstruction of the ski jumping facilities in the "valley of ski jumps" Planica, which was started in summer 2011, is further progressing. However, the season finale im March 2014 has to be moved from the ski flying to the large hill.
The piecewise new-construction of the out-dated ski jumping hills at Slovenia's ski flying Mekka Planica has started more than 2 years ago in summer 2011. For a rough cost estimate of 50 million Euro, within 4 years all ski jumping hills are renwed resp. completely new-constructed, their infrastructure is brought up to modern standards and a cross-country skiing center is build, thus creating the new "Planica Nordic Center" as a training and competition facility.
Enlargement of ski flying hill is delayed
A central concern of all the modernization is the attempt, to bring the ski flying world record, which has been established at 246.5 meters by Johan Remen Evensen in Vikersund, Norway, in 2011, back to Planica and Letalnica „Bratov Gorišek“. Therefore in this summer the enlargement of the ski flying hill onto K200 (HS 225) has started.
The shabby old inrun was already dismantled and is currently replaced by a new take-off made from concrete, which is slightly shifted back and still only 2 meters high, and an artificial inrun, which is with an angle of 35° going to be not as steep and frightening as the old one. The landing hill is modified as well, and the maximum height difference of 135 meters between take-off and outrun will be exactly maintained.
Season finale 2014 on Bloudkova Velikanka
Since there were some delays with the start of works on the ski flying hill, they will be finished most likely only in spring of next year and the hill is thus not available for the World Cup final from March 21-23, 2014. Thus the FIS has decided in October to move the event on the large hill „Bloudkova Velikanka“, where also a ladies large hill competition is going to be staged.
Bloudkova Velikanka, which is now including the large hill HS 139 and a normal hill HS 104, was completed as the first part of the new Nordic Center. In October 2012 fist ski jumps could take place on the two plastic covered hills, which are equipped with Mana ceramic inrun tracks from Slovenia and a cooling of the ice tracks. Currently the outdoor facilities and functional buildings of Bloudkova Velikanka are prepared for the World Cup final, when 15 to 20 thousand spectators will be expected.
Junior hill ready for jumping before winter
In between Letalnica and Bloudkova Velikanka, the construction works on five new children's and junior hill are currently running at full speeds. These shall develop Planica into an important training and education center for Slovenia's younger ski jumping talent. The ski jumps HS 45, HS 30 and HS 15 have already been covered with plastic mattings and are almost completed, while at HS 85 and HS 62 there is still a lot to do.
Construction leader Jelko Gros on siol.net: „Currently everything is on schedule as planned and the hills will be useable in winter. Building of service facilities will definitely be completed. If the weather in November is going to be warm enough, we may even be able to install plastic mattings on K65 hill. However, our goal is that all hills can be used for jumping during winter.“
Decision on WSC 2019 ahead
With the completed Nordic Center Planica will soon have one of Europe's leading Nordic winter sports centers for ski jumping and cross-country skiing, which shall attract the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships to Slovenia for a very first time. After Planica's application for 2017 failed and the WSC was given to Lahti, another candidature was submitted for 2019. During FIS Congress at Barcelona in June 2014 it will be decided, whether or not Planica can win over their opponents Almaty, Oberstdorf and Seefeld.

Wir haben in den letzten Jahren immer gerne die Monsterschanze Letalnica besucht, sind raufgeklettert und haben die irrsinnigen Dimensionen bewundert...mal sehen, wie es nach dem Umbau ausschauen wird: ob man dann auch noch bis ganz hoch wird steigen können? In jedem Fall ist es fast unvorstellbar, dass es Leute gibt, die den Mut haben, da runter zu springen.

Oberstdorf hätte für eine Vergrößerung nur die Möglichkeit nach oben zu erweitern. Ob das realsiert wird und die Kosten es zulassen, ist eine andere Frage. Mir ist aber zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt nichts bekannt, dass da etwas in Planung ist. Der Neubau der K90 auf K95 ist ja auch ziemlich teuer gewesen. Aber die Schanze ist optisch gesehen wirklich sehr gelungen. Du machst jedes Jahr Urlaub in Oberstdorf? Cool lass man einen Schrei, dann treffen wir uns auf ein Kaffee und plaudern ein bisschen. :D :D :D

Ich würde mich auch freuen wenn Planica den Weltrekord zurück erlangt obwohl ich Vikersund auch schön finde.
Die Letalnica hats einfach verdient.
Was Oberstdorf anbetrifft, würde ich nicht denken das die Schanze in nhaer zukunft aus- oder umgebaut wird. In Oberstdorf war es jetzt erst mal wichtig die k-90 auf eine k-95 zu erweitern um dem Nachwuchs eine Chancre zu bieten.
Ich glaube Oberstdorf fehlen derzeit auch noch die finanziellen Mittel für den Umbau.
Außerdem ist die Oberstdorfer Schanze so wie sie jetzt ist, völlig ausreichend und meiner Meiung nach ein architektonisches Meisterwerk. Ich kenne die Schanze sehr gut da wir jedes Jahr dort Urlaub machen und ich bin immer wieder erstaunt wenn ich sie sehe.
Also dann auf den nächsten Weltrekord in Panica
Gut, Schanzen sind immer eine Geschmacksfrage. Ich kann auch nicht verheimlichen, dass ich riesiger Planica-Fan bin.
Bei euch in Oberstdorf gibt es leider das Problem, dass man am Hang selber nicht viel verändern kann. Tiefer graben geht aufgrund des Grundwassers nicht. Einzige Möglichkeit wäre demnach den Schanzentisch bzw. den Turm nach hinten zu versetzen. Ob das realistisch ist, ist eine andere Frage.
@ Luis: Das habe ich mir auch schon gedacht, aber mich verwirrt ein bisschen der angegebene HS 225, da dieser in Vikersund auch so ist.
Ich hoffe, dass Planica wieder dieses Status einfach wegen der Tradition schafft. Und sorry: Aber die Anlage in Vikersund ist so unglaublich hässlich und hat null Charme.
Ich hoffe dass sie hier bei uns in Oberstdorf auch die Schanze mal vergrößern :D
So sicher wie Luis wäre ich mir nicht, dass der Weltrekord auf jeden Fall wieder zurück nach Planica gehen wird. Nominell wird die Schanze ebenso wie Vikersund eine HS 225 werden und beide Schanzen haben die kritische Höhendifferenz von 135 m zwischen Tisch und tiefstem Punkt des Aufsprunghangs/Auslaufs.

Die Letalnica wird nach dem Neubau wieder den Status als größte Flugschanze der Welt wiedererlangen.
Die baulichen Maßnahmen, die vorgenommen werden reichen aus, um Vikersund wieder abzulösen.
Du kannst dir wie alle Skisprungfans sicher sein, dass die Verantwortlichen in Planica dieses Vorhaben nicht in diesem Umfang anpacken würden, würden sie damit Vikersund nicht wieder übertrumpfen ;-)

Wie ist das eigentlich wenn der Neubau vollzogen ist? Wird die Letalnica wieder die größte Flugschanze der Welt werden?
