Ski jumping facility in Nizhny-Tagil completed
on 2012-12-27
Beside Chaikovskiy and Sochi/Esto-Sadok the third new ski jumping hill complex in Russia has just been opened in Nizhniy-Tagil, with the four plastic covered "Stork" ski jumps K120, K90, K60 and K40.
Already since its inauguration in 1970 the ski jumps at "long mountain" in Nizhny Tagil, situated east of the Ural, about 1800 km from Moscow, have been an important training center in Russia. Within the frame of the Russian sports infrastructure and culture program the renovation of the “stork” ski jumping facility had started in 2009. Beside the construction of four ski jumps K120, K90, K60 and K40 with plastic covering and floodlights, stands for 2,000 spectators, ski lifts, a cross-country skiing stadium and trails, as well as a sports hotel were built.
During the year 2010 the construction works ceased since financial means were not flowing as promised. These difficulties were over-come in 2011 and thus the four ski jumps could be completed in time for the final of men's Continental Cup scheduled for March 17 and 18, 2013. While the first jumps on K40 could be made finally on December 26, till recently the Ski-Line inrun tracks from Peter Riedel / REHAU had to be installed on K120.
“This is a record construction time”, Ski-Line manufacturer Peter Riedel cheers. “Our experts installed the inrun system within less than four weeks. This paves the way for the Continental Cup on the large hill which takes place in March in the region of Sverdlovsk.”
Currently, the landing slope is groomed with the support of skilled workers from Oberwiesenthal and using the latest snow grooming technology, because the first national competitions are already scheduled for January 2013. “At the end of January, the K90 ski jump with the newly developed measuring technology by our company will also be completed”, Peter Riedel adds. “And then, the second federal competitive sports centre of Russia is completed.”
