on 2011-10-30
The infrastructure around the HS 134 large hill at Zakopane will be improved already before the winter. Additionally a new ice inrun track gets installed.
Already with the official presentation of Zakopane as an applicant for the hosting of 2017 Nordic World Championships it was obvious, that the sports venus in High Tatras would need extensive modernizations and enlargements. This concerns the Wielka Krokiew large hill, as well as the Średnia Krokiew normal hill, which needs to be enlarged, and cross-country trails and stadium.
In the last weeks Zakopane hit negative headlines, because it won't be hosting a summer grand prix event next season, supposedly because it is too expensive for the organizers.
Now Apoloniusz Tajner, chairman of the Polish Ski Association PZN, announced that already before the World Cup competitons in January 2012 first modernization works for a total of 3.3 million Złoty (around 760,000 Euro) will be done. This means a renewal of the spectators stand left (east) of the landing hill and the installation of a new ice inrun track. Additionally new asphalt coatings will be made onto the roller ski trails around the athletics stadium.
