Progress on the planning of ski jumping center at Montafon

on 2011-07-23

After the organization EYOF 2015 was awarded to Liechtenstein and Vorarlberg in November 2010, now the realization of the sports facility concept is proceeding - at Tschagguns a ski jumping facility with four hills will be developped.

In the middle of the 20th century Zelfenschanze at Tschagguns in the Montafon was a ski jumping stronghold of Austria, but today there are only a few usable ski jumps in whole Vorarlberg left. This state shall be changed by the "Nordic Concept" and modern ski jumping hills are going to be build at Bezau in Bregenz Forests and Dornbirn. But the largest training center will be developed at Tschagguns, where the ski jumping competitions of the European Youth Olympic Festival 2015 of Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein will be staged.

In end of June the "Montafon Nordic Sportzentrum GmbH" was founded and is now responsible for the implementation of the ski jumping hills at Tschagguns and cross-country / biathlon facility at St. Gallenkirch / Gaschurn. An architectural competition for the ski jumping center at Tschagguns with HS 108 (K97), HS 66 (K60), HS 40 (K37) and HS 22 (K20) was started already. In October/November the winning drafts for the plastic mattings with floodlights will be announced and in 2012 the construction works on the site of former Zelfenschanze can begin. The total cost is now estimated on 9.5m Euro and from 2014 onwards the hills shall be ready for the first ski jumpers.
