Junior hills at Midtstuen under construction
on 2011-07-09
For Nordic World Ski Championships in 2011 a new mormal hill was constructed at Oslo in 2009-2010. Now the Midtstubakken facility gets extended by four palstic covered junior hills.
In order to improve conditions for the education of young ski jumpers at Oslo already the plannings for the new-construction of Midtstubakken at Holmenkollen included a training center with some smaller ski jumping hills beside HS 106. But first only the plastic covered K95 hill was set up from 2009 onwards, inaugurated with a Continental Cup competition in September 2010 and then used for WSC im February 2011.
For a long time the realization of the junior hills had been questionable, but now the construction works on the four hills HS 11, HS 22, HS 44 and HS 66 has started. Already in October plastic mattings shall be installed and in February 2012 the official inauguration competition on snow is scheduled.
Roar Gaustad, chairman of the ski jumping club "Kollenhopp", is already exculting on www.skijumping.no: "When this facility will be completed, a new era for ski jumpers and Nordic combined from Oslo and Akershus will start. It have been realy bad conditions for our athletes so far, but soon we will have a world class facility."
Additonally a plastic covering of 2008 to 2010 new-constructed Holmenkollen is planned now as well. It could be carried out in summer 2012 and complete the range of plastic covered training hills at Oslo.
