Necessity is the mother of invention
on 2004-03-22
Due to a lack of time and money in Norwegian Høydalsmo a system was invented, that prepares the Huka normal hill automatically.
In 1993, the new K90-hill was built in Høydalsmo in Vest-Telemark in Norway. The club there was not able to maintain the hill because of the large time exposure until the officials invented a system, which grooms the hill automatically.
By this time, the Norwegian team trains there now and then and in 2002 the traditional Norwegian championships took place on the Huka-stadium. A reason for that is – partly – the new grooming-system. A milling machine is installed in the inrun-trail, which takes out the snow, synchronous. Such a system does not exist on many hills on our planet. But there is not only on the inrun such a machine, but also on the slope for grooming, like initiator Petter Smart told us:
“On both sides of the slope, we installed a rail, which we adjusted to the profile of the hill. Between the rails, we lay down a tidy-up-machine, which drives down the hill, so that we don’t have a problem to smoothen the hill fast. And that’s not all: In a big hall, we encamp the removed snow and this stays there in summer. So we could prepare the hill already in harvest. That is most important, because the Norwegian-national-team could start precociously with the scheduling for the season when they stay here in Høydalsmo.”
