Garmisch needs to install wind shelter
on 2011-04-12
After a turbulent wind lottery during New Year's competition in 2011 FIS puts up the installation of a windnet as a condition for the organizers of the World Cup event at Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
After last week's spring meetings of FIS ski jumping committees at Zürich the provisional World Cup calendars for the 2012 season had been published and there is still a blank for traditional New Year's Day competition. Already in the past there was the official recommendation to set up a wind shelter in order protect ski jumpers better from wind influences on 2007 modernized Olympiaschanze. But first no measures were taken and then New Year's event 2011 showed the hill's exposition to wind conditions.
This was the reason for the FIS to erase the second stage of Four Hills Tournament from the provisional World Cup calendar and make the installation of a wind shelter an ultimate condition for the resumption.
The reaction of responsible persons from Garmisch-Partenkirchen came immediately: "The organizing committee of New Year's Competition will comply the requirements of FIS. There will be a solution for the forthcoming New Year's Competition", said Hannes Krätz, press officer of Skiclub Partenkirchen and third mayor of the municipality, to SKIJUMPING.de. "We will try to have a mixture of a permanent constructive measure with a fixture point on the bridge construction of the jump and a temporal soltion with a further hold point on a truck-mounted crane or as an alternative another constructive measure on an already existing foundation for a floodlight post."
